My sense is that you guys needed an example of what might be possible. I think your initial ideas were good, but push yourselves a little and take it up a notch.

In today’s world, the students don’t feel that they get what they should get out of school. As you see in the video, students believe that they get nothing sitting in class and they know that they will spend more time on the computer and watching TV, then actually doing work. Students don’t like reading and learning about things that don’t interest them and that is what I think about this video. In this class, Mr. Viva post these videos thinking he’s going “out of the norm” by showing videos about teens and there struggles, but he is no difference then any of the teachers and learning styles because this video doesn’t interest me in the least bit. If I were on Youtube, I wouldn’t in hundred thousand years look up videos like the ones he posts, or even the ones we, as a class made. I find the video no different then a lecture in a classroom that goes on for an hour, except this last for four mins.

This video is somewhat chilling to me. My initial response is shock, because I knew that college kids never complete all of their work, but the other facts related to college work astounded me. Initially, what really stuck with me was the girl who held up the sign saying that only 18% of her teachers know her name. I found that horrible, honestly. If that student has six teachers, approximately only one of her teachers knows her name. I went through a similar experience with one of my teachers this year, but that was only one teacher. (Don’t worry Mr. Viva, it wasn’t you.)
After a moment of thought, I realized that this video reminded me a lot about the video we watched previously this year, entitled “Did you Know?”. Some of the facts in this video were technology related, and all the rest were related to the classroom.
In my opinion, the classroom is becoming less and less important to how people are being taught, and are learning. One can find anything they want on the Internet, and it is definitely proved to be the way of the future, in my opinion. I believe so because more people use the Internet to find information that they need than people who use books. Amazing! This also brings me to think about the girl who held up the sign saying that she will only read seven books in one year. I know that I personally will read more, but for many this is a truth that is somewhat sad. I believe it to be sad because reading books is so good for the human body.

After watching this video it made me feel good. I seem to agree and can relate to what those kids are saying. For example, I bought a brand new Physics book during the summer. When classes started I was told to buy another book. This happened with several of my classes. Also, having to buy new books that the teacher only wants to discuss several “key” chapters in them. I think the teachers need to have there curriculum set so all this money from the students’ parents is not getting wasted.
Another part of the video that caught my attention was when that one girl said most of the material is irrelevant to anything they are majoring in.
Everything that was brought up in the video made a good point. It raised a lot of questions. The one that concerns me the most is, “Why are we being taught material that is irrelevant to what our future goals are going to be?”
I don’t have an answer. Does anyone?

I thought this video was really cool. There were two facts that really hit me. The first one was when the students said how much time they spent doing certain activities every day. A girl then held up a sign that says it was a total of 26 hours a day. It makes you realize how much of your life is devoted to technology. I think technology is good to a certain extent, but when it takes up your whole day and then some, it tends to become ridiculous. The other fact that really hit me was that over one billion people make less than one dollar a day. It’s crazy in that some people even here in Worcester might be making six figures while others are not making anything. This video, really said something, without actually speaking. It really showed how much power and impact words can have.

This video does is not very surprising. Personally, I live what many of these students are talking about every single day. But, like them, I don’t know what to do about it. Our society is basically trapped in an educational system that is highly inefficient. Or in other words, a very small percentage of the things we learn in school today have lasting effects on our lives.
I believe that attending school is an important part of growing up, but not for the education part of it. The most important part of attending school is developing people skills. Learning to communicate and interact with a wide variety of people is a much more important skill in life than trigonometry. So this educational system is worth the effort simply to allow kids to develop through the underlying experiences that automatically come with high school and college.
So young people need to go to high school. They need to learn how to write and communicate effectively, understand some level of mathematics, and develop people skills. But what is being taught in the meantime? Kids go to school for 8 hours a day and might come away with about a half hour a day of truly meaningful education. Students are facebooking their way through classes because most of the stuff they are learning has no worth. It’s incredibly inefficient.
So what can we do? Kids need to learn to read and write, but understandably, they despise school. We need to rethink the system, embracing the new technological era. Find more efficient ways to teach the essentials, but then let students explore the topics that most interest them. That way, students will engage themselves in their own educations, and come out with a genuine love of learning.

So as you consider your production projects, from a design perspective, this video offers much of the same approach as “Three Words” did, only takes it to a different level. I hope it inspired you to consider how you might approach your next piece.

I really enjoyed watching this video because I thought it was very unique and said something that everyone in today’s society can relate to or learn from. The students that wrote something said something in a few words similar to what we accomplished in the “Three Words” assignment. I also can relate as a student to what the people were saying in the video where the central message or theme among the video seemed to be that technology is a major part to today’s economy and the next technological breakthrough might be able to solve problems that maybe are not particularly our problems. I agree with Brian R because I also believe that kids of this era are beginning to hate the idea of school because many systems of different schools have not updated to recent technological advancements, therefore many kids are learning, basically, the same way there parents were learning. Finally, this video definitely inspired me through the idea that it puts the world in another perspective.

This video was very interesting. I think it was most interesting because of the fact that I can relate to and understand all of the information presented by the students. The argument presented is similar to that of Nancy Schnog. There seems to be a reoccurring theme here: relevance. Why are we studying material that has nothing to do with everyday life? Why are we studying through mediums that will probably be outdated a few years from now? I remember last year in biology, when I would be eternally thankful every time we used computers in class. Why? Because that was my opportunity to email my friends, or check the latest news about the NBA. It seemed almost as if the computer was my escape from educational boredom. I believe classes are what the teachers make of it, a point briefly touched upon in the video. If the teacher makes it interesting, the class will be interested to learn. A perfect example is this class. I absolutely love going to creative writing class, because it’s a class like no other, in every way. It’s interesting, interacting, and appealing to the students. I don’t think anyone in class would disagree with me on that. Or am I wrong?

I thought this video was presented in a interesting way. It really made me think about what college classrooms can be like from the perspective of the students. All of the information that each student presented really caught my attention. It really got me thinking when students are paying all this money for school, but are not benefiting from it and are not learning anything that is relevant to what interests them. Students were not willing to learn because of the environment around them such as the large classrooms. When one student says that he does not open many of the books he bought show how students are paying money for material that is not interesting to them. Technology is a huge issue because that is what students are interested in. An example is how the video shows how much time technology is used during the day. The students who had laptops were most likely to go on facebook or anything else that was not related to what they were learning. If students are being taught information that is not relevant to what they want to study, they will not take an interest in the classroom.

I cannot respond fully to this video because I could not get it to load past 4:10 every time I tried it. So, I do not know what comes after the chalkboard scene, but I want to respond to the parts I did see. Based on the statistics that were given I feel that one school I am looking at is solving these problems. You may be thinking of a certain college or university but I am almost positive you are not one the same page. This particular school is probably the last school you would consider, because of its history and probably name. The mystery school is the Naval Academy. The Naval Academy is on the forefront of technology. It is focused in one direction, but you are using some of the most advanced technology in the world. You more than likely will not ever have a class online or use the internet in a unique classroom experience but while you are at the academy you learn so many essential lessons. You learn teamwork, character, how to problem solve in high stress situations, as well as leadership and many others. I feel that more colleges should be like the Naval Academy, in that they teach those unique skills instead of a certain subject because the world is changing so much and you really cannot prepare academically for the new world.

This message is really true. I think that people need to realize what life is really like for students. They are college students but as a high school student, I can relate to this in almost every way. This video begs the question: Do we need to change our education system? And from these facts, the answer if evident. We do need to change our education system. In todays world, there are so many more ways to learn and this has to do almost completely with technology. We need to move away from tradition text book learning and focus on the present by using other forms of media. We have acess to the internet, movies, music, and books. So we should utilize all of the things at our advantage.

I think that this video is extremely well done and moving. It tells of so many facts that hit close to home or will soon enough in the next couple years. The fact that the girl held about only 18% of her teachers knowing her name doesn’t really surprise me but its unbelievable to think of that. How can a teacher teach a class, educate the students, form a relationship with them(which is when the best teaching is done) if they don’t even know their students names. The video is done in a very interesting and creative way from how it starts to showing “student writings” on the walls and chairs to how it ends with students holding up random facts about education. The video was well done and there should be more videos out there like it. Maybe it’s our turn to make a(nother) moving short film that speaks to people.

I find this movie really interesting and relevant to our life. All those problems and phenomenons in this movie happens everyday in our life, but we already get used to the education system that somehow we neglect those problems. It is really haunting to consider how much can things we learn in school really help us in the future, especially knowing the fact that only 26% knowledge are relevant to our jobs. The method of education can not keep up with the development of communication in this world. But even though students today are basicly all accessible to computer and internet, the new technology can not efficiently helping the traditional teaching method, instead of utilizing tech to schools, simultaneously an improvement of teachingmethod is needed.

I find this video shocking because the fact that they know themselves are not working hard and still show others a sense of wasting the resources that lots of people want to have. In fact, a friend of mine who went to UCLA told me that there are over 600 students could not find a college dorm because there were too many students applied to states colleges and university this year based on the falling of the stocks. Imagine the amount of students that they really need the opportunity of college education, which they can not get it based on their money or bad luck. But there are students there wasting their time by talking on phone over two hours a day, or online for a long time, who are also a state university student?
The post, “I’m one of the lucky ones”, what? They might just get in there just by luck, but I think they need to cherish their opportunity for getting this chance. And the post, “I study 3 hours a day”, which sounds ridiculous to me, even a high school student study more than three hours a day. I think the people went to college really need to re-think why they went there. If they don’t want to be there or just want to have fun, please don’t waste the resources that other hard-working students deserves to get.

I thought this video was very entertaining. It shows that students are developing more with technology then with regular classroom curriculum. Also that by the time these people graduate there will be more jobs open in new areas. Many of the fact I already knew, but others surprised me. The video showed how technology was becoming a big factor in their learning yet also how it was a distraction. The fact that says, “I study 3 hours a day” is an average. In prep schools people study over 3 hours in public school students study less then 3 hours. Also, how can a teacher relate to the student if the classes are as large as they are in the video? If the students feel like they are neglected then why are they watching television or going on facebook when they should be helping themselves accomplish their work in their classes. School is still important even if everything taught will not help in the future. School creates skills that will be used in the future, but not all of the learning involves contains important information. Learning has become almost completely technology and there needs to be a system to include technology in everyday learning.

This video reminded me a lot of our three words video. Although our three words video did not go to the extremity of this video I feel that if we had more time to do so our video would be comparable. This video shows the difference between the new way of learning and the old. If you think about it how did our parents or guardians go through high school and college without an internet? Is that even possible? In certain ways technology is certainly making life easier however much more distracting. For instance in the video one girl shows a sign that she facebooks through most of her classes. What is this doing for her? If anything it is taking away from her learning experience inside the classroom. I believe every high school student in the country should view this video before entering college to see what they’re really getting into and how much “learning” they will really be doing.

This video was amazing and can relate to all classrooms everywhere. Technology does make life easier but it also complicates it more. Technology costs money though so the complications come with that. For example, one girl in the video said that by the time she graduates she will be 20,000 in debt. That is a huge amount of money. Could technology help her?? If so, could someone explain to me?

I thought that this video was interesting and had many important messages. Technology is great but only to a certain extent. I think that some are way too dependent on technology and that they might be missing out on a lot that they could be learning instead. I’m not saying that people should stop using the computer all together but it wouldn’t hurt them to actually read a book and value education a little bit more. We are fortunate to have the chance of a good education and should take advantage of it. Maybe changes should be made in the education system.

I thought this video used a very interesting method to get a very simple point across. Technology has clearly changed the way the world runs today. Some of the notes that the students wrote in this video were very interesting. I really liked the one that said “I didn’t create the problems, but they’re my problems.” This statement is very true. I really liked this video and the message it presented.

This video made very interesting points in a very creative way. The students in this video present facts that are very real and apply to almost all kids their age, and even younger. I know personally I already spend about 2 hours on the phone a day and probably over 3 hours online. And by the time I am in college those numbers will probably double. It is very true that many students nowadays have to be able to multitask, not only college students, but also high school students. And the cost of the technology needed to be a part of a college experience is ridiculous, and has a significant influence on our economy. Technology has had an impact on the way students learn, but it has also impacted the rest of the world.

i think every high school student could agree with this movie about something. Most students today are extremely busy and often stressed and overwhelmed. When one girl said the hours in which she does certain activities adds up to 26 hours in a day, it caught my attention. Especially as someone who does extracurricular activities including sports, it really seems like you need more time in each day to get all your work done. The video kind of gives you a small glimpse into what it is like to be a hardworking college student. I also thought that the way the material was present was very clever and entertaining. it kept me interested and told me the facts with out any unwanted filler or fluff.

This video suggests that technology is such a big part in out life and also due to that, the world is moving in a very fast pace: but not always helpful. I personally have technology all over me too. I sometimes work on my homework with the TV on or while I’m talking on the phone. It is a multi-tasking but it doesn’t work out quite well. When I turn on my computer, there are so many distracting things that I can be led to that sometimes it does not work so well when I try to type out my homework. This video is all very true. Students don’t enjoy learning off from books. They don’t really like reading books. They don’t like to write papers. But they love reading online comments and writing e-mails and texting. This is where technology has brought us up. I don’t know if it is necessarily the fault of technology but we do have problems.

First, it discussed about the students that would not protect their resources, including the chairs, walls. Then later from this video, it told that the new technology has improved our lives, but it depends. The new media actually does improve our lives on the internet researching, the email to friends and family, the blog posts to show everyone. On the other side, because of those technology, students often spend more and more time on the computer, including online chatting with friends, using facebook or watching videos. Proved that students nowadays does not study as hard as before because they have more comfortable situation for studying, so they will choose to relax in stead of studying. Not only because of that, but also because of the new technology that students and adults enjoy to possess. They choose to spend lots of time using the computer instead of sitting there and study hard. In my opinion, the student now version may disappointed lots of people.

I really like this video. It successfully talks about the different views on technology, by showing how technology can be both good and bad. Technology can be such a great thing for the world. We can access any piece of information at any time we want at lightning fast speed. So many things are made possible because of the easy access that we have to technology. But then again, as the video points out, technology isnt completely all good. Technology has made everything so easy and fast that people have relied on it to much. At some point our society may begin to change almost too fast. Technology has taken over the world. And it is a mixture of good and bad.

I think that this is one of the most interesting videos we’ve watched so far this year. It is definitely relevant to the way students feel about classes, and what they do. Each and every one of us are multitaskers not because we want to be, but because we have to be. If we weren’t, there would never be enough time in he day to do everything we need to accomplish. The fact that one girl said she gets 7 hours of sleep a night seems like a lot, considering how much we have to do.
This video was also a very creative way to get the point across. It was entertaining but at the same time informative. Technology is a huge part of students lives today, but it is also a hassle. When the internet is slow, or the power goes out like it did in December, it makes everything so much more difficult because we no longer have the technology we had been using and find ourselves lost. Even the cell phone, although it was only mentioned once in the video, people feel lost without it constantly available to them. So, technology can be very helpful, but it also makes some things very difficult.

This video says a lot without actually having any students physically speak. It shows the power of words. The students message that technology has successfully alter the world we live in today is very true. I think that in some cases people have begun to rely on technology almost too much. Technology is causing the world to change at such a fast pace that I think the little things are being forgotten. I know that I spend a good amount of my day either on the computer or on my cell phone just like many of the students in the video. One girl holds up a sign that says “I didn’t create the problems by they are MY problems.” This statement is absolutely correct in that many students face and deal with problems they had no part in creating. Overall this video presents a very valuable message in a creative way.

I thought this video was very interesting. It really opened my eyes to how difficult time management can be for teenagers. Technology has been becoming a main part of every teens’ life, and it is more and more difficult to prioritize time. Students are more apt to use technology such as the internet and texting then read or do written homework. The time consumed in technology really adds up for many students. It is obvious that with the current educational systems in many places students will not learn as effectively. Technology has become a major portion of high school and college students’ everyday lives, and schools should incorporate this into their teaching styles. The way in which teachers keep students engaged should reflect the students’ inclination to turn to technology.
