Sidney Crosby began his career in the NHL at the age of 18, but his lack of experience did not hold him back from becoming one of the top scorers in the NHL in 2005 and still continues to be a top spot holder.
From September 2005 to February 2008 Crosby’s #87 jersey was the top seller on the NHL website. Sidney has endorsement deals with Gatorade and Reebok, which makes him one of the most advertised players in the U.S. In 2007, Crosby was nominated as one of the most influential people in TIME magazine. Due to Crosby, the popularity gain of hockey in the United States has increased greatly. In almost all arenas Sidney Crosby plays at, sell out crowds are there to see this young star in action.
Not only has Sidney Crosby brought success to the NHL but also to his team the Pittsburgh Penguins. He brought his team to the Stanley Cup Finals, leading the playoff series with most point scored. In 2007 Crosby signed a five year 43.5 million dollar deal with the Penguins, promising them that he will be there til the 2012-2013 season. Although the Penguins have had a struggling year, and are currently in 13th place, Sidney Crosby continues to shine.
