The word tempest means “storm” and this story starts with a storm that takes down a pleasure boat sailing to Italy.
But the stormy shipwreck is no accident—it was orchestrated by a magician named Prospero who used to be Duke of Milan before his evil brother Antonio and the neighboring king of Naples overthrew him and left him for dead…
Prospero is anything but dead—in fact, he’s been living on this island with his daughter Miranda for the past 12 years, planning how to get his revenge on the bad guys who are, of course, on the boat that sank.
Prospero teases and torments his enemies… he gets help from some very magical fairies—the Ariels– who do his bidding even though they’d rather fly away free… and he has some hindrance from the monstrous Caliban who lived on the island before Prospero arrived and wants his home back. Meanwhile, romance blooms between Miranda and Ferdinand, the King’s son.
What will Prospero do with the “men of sin”—punish or forgive?
Will Miranda and Ferdinand get together?
Will the Ariels and Caliban ever gain their freedom?
Tune in to WBRD—all live, all Shakespeare, all weekend….
