I have never read an article laced with more ignorance and incorrect information as this one, and quite frankly I am mystified as to how this made it into publication, if not because of its content, then because of its obvious grammatical errors. Perhaps you should watch a baseball game before you call all players out of shape. You should at least attempt to do some research for your article if you are going to insult people. To say that baseball “was created to give lazy people something to do” is one of the most ignorant statements I have ever heard, although the rest of this article gives it a run for its money. I hardly think that someone who is proactive and engages in outdoor activity is lazier than “the kid sitting at home playing on his Xbox.” And you know, there are people who play baseball who are left-handed and pull the ball with great frequency to right field. Teams even have special defenses designed for such players, such as David Ortiz, who you mention in this article, but we’ll get to that later. Considering the fact that you know nothing about baseball, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that you have never met a professional baseball player, and at any rate, you haven’t met most of them. To generalize all baseball players’ personalities, or any group of people’s personalities, is ignorant. There are a variety of personalities present in every clubhouse just as there are everywhere else in the world, but maybe you don’t realize this because you’re too busy hanging out with your “lax bros.” The next part of your argument insults the “style” of baseball players. I hope that you don’t honestly believe that “you have to look good to play good.” As Ryan mentioned, baseball players all wear uniforms and have little room to express their personal “style.” You focus only on their game-time accessories in insulting their style, when they spend most of their time dressed in other attire. Wearing a mask and carrying around a stick with a net at the top isn’t stylish either, it is simply what the sport of lacrosse calls for. Phiten necklaces are not worn by only baseball players and are meant to prevent fatigue and speed recovery from workouts, not injuries. Obviously no necklace can protect you from pulling a hamstring or any other injury for that matter. And I’m curious, how do you think that Ken Griffey, Jr managed to hit 630 home runs (and counting) while being on the DL for his whole career? Maybe you should check your facts on that one– Griffey is a shoo-in Hall of Famer, and is playing in his 22nd MLB season (most players don’t last that long). And as for David Ortiz, I won’t restate what Ryan stated above, but you are clearly confused about what the “Mendoza Line” is. And perhaps you should reconsider your definition of a “power hitter” as David Ortiz holds the Red Sox franchise record for home runs in a season with 54. As a side note, 248 pounds is extremely small for an NFL lineman, the average OL weighs 318 and even the speedy DE’s are over 260. Robert Mathis is as far as I know the only true DL who comes in at under 248, and he weighs 245. Next, you are simply wrong, or intentionally lying, about the prices of tickets and concessions at baseball games. A Fenway Frank costs $5, a beer $7.75, and Fenway ranks among the most expensive ballparks when it comes to concessions. The median lowest ticket price for all MLB stadiums is $9– you don’t even have to break a $20. As a final comment, the reason that concessions are more expensive at baseball games and that players’ salaries are so high, is that people actually care about and enjoy watching the sport. If lacrosse games sold out stadiums like baseball games did, teams would compete more for better players, and would be able to spend more money on them.

I couldn’t disagree more with this article. All you’re doing is stereotyping baseball and lacrosse players, without any actual facts to back anything up. Lacrosse is not the oldest sport in the world, not even close. Native Americans and Christopher Columbus? Yes, there were definitely no sports of any kind before that.
Your main argument hinges on the statement “baseball players have no style.” Do you honestly think that they wear “3/4 shirts,” sunglasses, and Phiten necklaces to look good? I’m sure it would never occur to a person like you that they care about something other than how they look, or that there is a reason for wearing those things. Not to mention that all games are played in these things called uniforms, and there are no “3/4 shirts” to be found.
Just to point out a few more errors, Ortiz is being paid $12,500,000. And if you knew anything about baseball, you would realize that Ortiz’s production last year was far superior to the “Mendoza Line.” 28 home runs and 99 runs batted in is above the league average, and so was his .794 OPS (you can look up what that means).
One last thing- there’s a reason you can go to most lacrosse games for free. It’s called supply and demand. You haven’t even quoted the prices of the concessions at a baseball game correctly; you’re off by about 50%. And you really should have consulted your parents before mortgaging your house for that Sox game. Fenway, the most expensive ballpark in the league, offers “nosebleed” seats for just $12.

I disagree with you. I never saw health care as a motivation for work, more as a benefit that, until recently only the wealthy and middle class could somehow obtain. Motivation for jobs comes from bring bread to the table for a man or woman’s family, one’s self, or for just sheer desire for material goods. Is it necessarily a bad thing for the wealthy to be taxed more? The upper classes are the ones who can afford the tax increases, and many people’s, almost the entire middle class’s, taxes will remain unchanged… My family included.
There really isn’t a wrong reason for somebody to want to gain citizenship in the country, people want to come to America to find work, and obviously with such huge benefits as a health care bill, immigrants will want to become citizens. We were all immigrants at some point.
People are not switching their health care providers, their health care providers are switching their system. And if our country’s health care system is so good, then why aren’t other country’s switching to our terrible system?

I say, its about time for everybody to be getting off their bandwagons of inaccuracy, and leap onto the Canada, Brazil, Hong Kong Wagon of universal heath care.
